The new update applies to both the free and paid version. If you downloaded it through App World, you should get a notification from App World or from the gwabbit site itself.

New improvements include:

Improved gwabbit to allow for better parsing of U.S. postal addresses, better handling of suffixes, and improved capture of international phone numbers.
Improved parsing of postal addresses into the appropriate address fields for city, state and zipcode
Suffixes (e.g., CPA, MD, Esq.) to be placed appropriately with the last name.
Capture of the “+” sign for international phone numbers.

Actual Shots of BlackBerry OS 6.0 Leaked Out?

For the past few months we’ve heard a lot of rumblings about RIM’s upcoming OS 6.0. All signs point to a completely new OS for RIM that make them “comparable” to other smartphones on the market. Well early this morning shots leaked out of what could be RIM’s next OS (version 6.0), and it feels like Android on steroids. By looking at the pics it seems that the home screen will feature many integrations with social networking, email, and rss feeds.

The screen shots are similar resolution to the BlackBerry Storm family, and this OS is rumored to be launching with the upcoming BlackBerry Slider that made its photo debut a few weeks ago. What’s really interesting is the screen shots seem to be pretty much dead on with the ones from last month’s webcast for developers. Interesting eh? So what do you think of these possible OS 6.0 shots? Is this enough to save RIM from a dying OS for say?

WordPress For BlackBerry Updates To v1.1, More Added Support

WordPress updated their app to the newest version, 1.1. According to the WordPress website, quite a few changes have been made. If you have WordPress, we suggest you update now, and if you don’t, you should give it a try with the new improvements. So what does WordPress do? The all new WordPress for BlackBerry app allows you to write posts, upload photos and videos, edit pages, and manage comments. It makes it easy to make changes right from your BlackBerry, editing your work. It’s convenient, and while you’re pressed for time, it relieves you from being pressed for words while you’re mobile.

Here’s what WordPress has listed as new:

Comment Notifications
Geotagging of Posts
Improved UI interaction on Touch devices
introduction of Touch Gestures:
Sliding a finger to the left or right quickly on the Comment screen displays the next or
previous comment.
Photo Resizing improvements with user defined dimensions

If you have the app, you can download the newest version either by signing into your BlackBerry Sync Store account, and go into My Apps and download, or you can do it the easiest way by going through the BlackBerry Sync Mobile Super Store and download it from there.

Brainwave has sixteen preset sound patterns which are:

Headache Therapy: Helps alleviating headaches with mix of steady low tones.
Meditation: Helps attaining a meditative state of mind quickly. The effect will be better with no noise background or other special effects.
Schumann Resonance: Helps meditating with a steady 7.83Hz tone. This is the resonance frequency of the Earth’s magnetic field, making it a very natural meditation frequency.
Sleep Induction: Gently moves the brain frequency down to 3Hz, with a fadeout at the end.
Relaxation: Helps to relax with a basic sweep from regular beta activity (15Hz) down to 7Hz. The end of the sweep is emphasized slightly with a louder volume.
Self-hypnosis: help getting into a self-hypnotic state. The user should listen to the repeating sound and concentrate on it. The key to successful self-hypnosis is in being able to concentrate on the sound.
Attention Increase: Helps focusing attention by bringing the brain to a high beta frequency. The frequency is lowered briefly once every 15 seconds to keep the brain more receptive.
Creativity Enhancing: Induces a state of enhanced creativity with three varying theta tones.

Learning Aid 1 (for subliminal): Helps to learn and memorize new material when listened to while learning something. Subliminal programming tapes can be played with this preset in the background.
Learning Aid 2 (for studying): Helps to learn and memorize new material when listened to while learning something.
White Noise – Ocean Waves: This preset demonstrates the most basic noise-modulation effect: ocean waves.
White Noise – Shoveling Sand: The “left-to-right” is achieved by using noise modulated with an irregular modulation phase of -30 degrees. To get the sound reversed (right-to-left), use a modulation phase of +30 degrees.
White Noise – Rain and Windshield Wipers: The unique right-left-right effect is achieved by using modulation that has a phase of 180 degrees and the “Noise source inside the head” setting

Fabian has some great apps, and LaterDude Pro is one of them. So great that it was nominated for Best Utility App of 2009! LaterDude Pro is available in the BlackBerry Sync Store, and if you have it, we highly recommend you update your software and here’s why…

I really like the apps that integrate with my BlackBerry and this is one of those apps. From the BlackBerry Sync Store, here’s the description for our readers who haven’t heard of it.

LaterDude Pro is an application that reminds you to call, SMS or email someone. The efficiency of it is that it interacts with the system and creates a new event into the internal calendar or task application.

After installation, LaterDude Pro is available for use on your device. The new version has an icon for easier access.

You click on Menu -> Later, Dude! to access the application.

If you are in the following applications then you can invoke the currently selected entry:

Call Log
Messages/email Application
SMS Application
Address Book List

From these 4 applications you can select an entry to directly get its contents imported into the fields of LaterDude Pro.

For example if you want to get notified tomorrow that you have to contact your Doctor, you go into the Address Book, scroll to your Doctor’s entry, press Menu -> Later, Dude! to set up a call-back reminder. The phone number and name is then already set in the LaterDude Pro application.

And it works just exactly as it says it does. So what’s new in the update? Quite a bit, check it out:

When you create a new Calendar Event or Task via LaterDude Pro, you get to use the standard input screen for creating a new PIM Entry. Through that you can simply edit all the necessary infos for each Event you create.
The reminder time for the Event you set up is always set to 1 min. Through that it does not interfere with any calendars you sync your device with and you don’t have to change the default reminder time like you had to do in the previous versions.
It includes a Tell-A-Friend screen so that you can spread the word about LaterDude Pro easier
The standard length for an event created with LaterDude Pro is now 10 min
The subject of an email can be set as the subject of the Calendar Event or Task
When you set an event from the Messages, it does not automatically preselect the ‘email’ keyword.
You can add a custom keyword (next to the Call, SMS, eMail, Contact and Meet keywords)
The day of the week will get displayed in the Dialog where you can quick-select the time and date for each Event or Task
Many other small bugs were fixed

Basic features of the app are:

Create fast call-back or follow-up reminders
Raises your efficient working experience
Saves a lot of Time
Don’t ever forget to contact someone back

There are some key notes to remember about LaterDude Pro that Fabian has listed, and those are:

Set the Application Permissions: Go to Options -> Advanced Options -> Applications -> LaterDude Pro -> Menu -> Set Permissions -> Set all to Allow -> Reboot the device (battery-pull).

The application does work on the BlackBerry Tour but RIM has to udpate the Tour-OS so that it works from the Call Log aswell. Everywhere else the application does work.
Enter the registration code in the trial version of the app to register it. Menu -> Register. The app is found in the Downloads folder.
If you update from a previous version, please read the email that you received when the application was updated. Everything is explained in there.

Now you would think an app like this might run quite a bit, but you get all this in a pro version for only $2.95 in the BlackBerry Sync Store! Now if you have the app, please go sign in to your BlackBerry Sync App Store account online or in your Mobile Super Store and download the update that way. You will be given a new code for the new version, so be sure to delete the old one, restart and download and install the new. And as always, we recommend a battery pull after installation. If you don’t have the app, no worries, we can show you where you can get it.

BlackBerry Bold 9700 OS 5.0.0.545 Officially Released!

It seems that .545 for the Bold 9700 was just leaked last week, and now Vodafone UK has officially released it. This means that Vodafone UK has released what seems to be an awesome OS update for the Bold 9700. I’ve been using .545 myself and so far I’m pretty impressed with it. Keep in mind you don’t have to be a Vodafone customer to get access to this OS, all you have to do is simply remove the vendor.xml file.

Xobni Mobile Released for BlackBerry Smartphones

The biggest buzz around the BlackBerry world today revolved around an application called Xobni. Xobni – “inbox” spelled backwards – is an innovative new way to manage your contacts both on your BlackBerry and through Microsoft Outlook on your PC. While the Outlook plugin is not new, the mobile version released today is a first for the company.

I think a lot of people wonder why you would need another application to handle your contacts, when your BlackBerry comes with an address book pre-installed. Xobni is more than just another list you manually create with names, phone numbers and email addresses. The application actually scans the emails, SMS messages, and call logs on your BlackBerry and compiles all of the contact information it finds into a very easy to use database. It’s really amazing how it works, drawing out information you may not have realized you had. As new emails and calls come in to your BlackBerry, Xobni automatically adds them to the database, so you never have to worry about losing that important phone number or email address again. Contacts are sorted based on the frequency that you use them, so your most important contacts are always listed first.

Added to all of this convenience, Xobni also automatically integrates with LinkedIn and Facebook. With a single click you can view a contact’s profile on either website. This is really a feature rich application and it’s good to see it released on the BlackBerry platform.

If you are interested in downloading Xobni for your BlackBerry, or want to learn more about all of the features it has to offer, head over to their website and check it out. While Xobni is not free, it is not terribly over-priced like some applications tend to be. You can download the BlackBerry app for a one-time fee of $9.99. If you choose to use Xobni in conjunction with Outlook on your PC, there are additional charges, but again for all the features and functionality you are getting out of it, I think it is reasonably priced.
